Feature Business January 2016

Prairie Centre Credit Union – Eston Branch

Eston is a town built on family and teamwork, it makes perfect sense that co-operatives are common place here. For our January feature business, we are putting the spotlight on one co-operative: Prairie Centre Credit Union.

Prairie Centre Credit Union (PCCU) is a financial institution that is proud of its rural base. They boast 13 branches, an administration building, insurance agency and over 120 employees. With a focus on agriculture and bringing local financial experts right to their members, PCCU really does want to “grow your money”.

For this article, we will be specifically focusing on the Eston branch of Prairie Centre. PCCU is a large local employer, having 7 full time and 2 casual employees based out of their office. Offering services to the community ranging from chequing accounts, to agriculture loans, to financial plans and even brokerage service, the Eston branch has worked hard to bring success to their membership.  The team is led by Business Development Manager Christie McIvor and Deposit Services Manager Janet Reimer.  McIvor manages the lending staff, and Reimer the deposit staff. They work together to grow their branch, and in 2012 were awarded the top performing branch of PCCU.

Although Prairie Centre may be rurally based, they have made a commitment to offer some great modern products and services to their membership. Most recently they have come out with a mobile App featuring “deposit anywhere”. This allows members to deposit a cheque with their smartphone simply by taking a picture. The lending team offers a range of products from small vehicle loans all the way to major agriculture purchases. For those looking to start investing, there are a range of options. Savings accounts, TFSAs, RRSPs, Financial Planning services, mutual funds, stocks and bonds – no need to drive into Saskatoon for service when the local experts are right here.

Credit Unions are based in community. Each member contributes a member share, and is welcome to attend annual meetings and vote for community representatives on the board of directors. This sense of community is evident in the Eston branch. Before you even make it through the second set of doors, a community board highlights the involvement of the staff. They are proud to sponsor children’s sporting events, senior hockey, golf tournaments, community counselling services and more. But more than just donating funds, PCCU really strives to grow their employees into outstanding community members. Employees are recognized and rewarded for community involvement, and take a genuine interest in fostering growth right here in Eston. Thanks PCCU, for continuing to give where we live!

For the month of January, Prairie Centre Credit Union reminds you to take a look at your RRSP portfolio – the deadline to contribute towards the 2015 tax year is February 29, 2016.
